Lanzarote, the most northerly of the Canary islands, is 140 kilometres off the west coast of Africa. The capital of Lanzarote is Arrecife.
The island covers 846 square kilometres, is 60 km long and 20 km wide and has a total population of approximatley 125.000 (01.01.2005).
Timanfaya National Park (the fire mountains) is the most stunning volcanic feature of Lanzarote visited by thousands of visitors each year. But, Lanzarote also has several beautiful white beaches as well as many other tourist attractions.
Lanzarote also offers many fine restaurants with a great variety of different local and international cuisine. Exciting nightlife can be found in the bars and discotheques in Puerto del Carmen.
